I Heard it From The Polly (New Wave) – Marvin Gaye with Kurt Cobain

This is the worst best mash-up evar. some songs are just made to be mixed together.

Joplin Tornado Aftermath Video

Not to make light of a horrible situation and a tragic event, but I think I would have helped myself to a drink after this one. The Tulsa Red Cross is taking donations, you can call (918) 831-1100, or you can text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief.

Video comic about dark matter

Dark Matters from PHD Comics on Vimeo.

In the vein of RSAnimate, here’s a comic drawn around an audio track of two guys discussing what we know and don’t know about dark matter. It sounds like they were recording in a restaurant or something so there’s some annoying background noise, but otherwise it’s a really interesting watch.

Marty McLoser vs Marty McRich

So the wife and I got into a lengthy discussion the other day about the time paradoxes in the first Back to the Future (not II or III) and we devised a theory to satisfy the time loop paradox at the end. it goes a little something like this: In the original movie, Marty McLoser watches Doc Brown die at the hands of the Libyans at the Twin Pine Mall. He goes back in time, disrupts and reconciles his parents and shoots “Back to the Future!” during the lighting strike at the clock tower. He arrives 10 minutes early to save Doc (who refused to read the note waring him about his untimely demise) and watches as his previous self zips to the past.

BUT!

we are mistaken to think that the Marty that Marty McLoser sees heading back to break up his parents is the original Marty McLoser. It’s not. Things have already changed due to Marty McLoser’s meddling (as evidenced by the Lone Pine mall sign) and the second Marty is the progeny the “successful and rich” Lorraine and George McFly (or Marty McRich as we began calling him). Why would Marty McRich be hanging out with Doc Brown? Our theory goes that: Doc Brown sought out Marty McRich because he knew there was danger of a time paradox. Doc read the note that Marty McLoser gave him and knew McLoser was heading back to the future so Doc had no choice but to sabotage the second delorean and kill Marty McRich (who he never liked much anyway) thus stopping a dangerous time loop paradox from happening.

The Punch Brothers cover 2+2=5 at the 2010 Pick-a-thon

Sexy Sax Man (Careless Whisper)

This guy is pretty douch-y, but he’s good at what he does. and what he does is play Careless Whisper over and over again to the chagrin of security guards everywhere.

Granted it’s not a continuous take, but i still love machines like this.

Where Mathematics and engineering meet. Precision machines.

Listen to this while watching the Circles video

I recently learned the actual definitions of Dubsteb and have been digging some deep bass wobbles. Use this as a soundtrack for the mathy goodness above.

The revolution may not be televised, but it will be tweeted. This is a powerful piece about how the internet and social networking are enabling the voices of the masses to be heard.

This looks amazing. I love the 8-bit style but they’re really bringing something new to it too. Look for more around the vernal equinox.

Nostromo – Binary Overdrive

Not sure what this is from, but it’s gorgeous. Not so into the song but the animation is amazing. Thanks Wattana for the tip!

Solowheel

Hey, it’s those little wheelie things from the comic B.C. For the low low price of $1500 you can have this truncated segway that’s far more portable (if maybe a little less comfortable to ride).

Harpo Marx vs. Milton Berle

That Harpo is a talented guy. Note the Kraft Kitchens plug at the very end!

Lance Burton Magic

I’m a sucker for sleight of hand and this routine is amazing.

I like that blizzard cam runs away like a little bitch and also the disappointed face on the polar bear when he crushes snowball cam. awwww.

Matt Jaffe – Don’t Worry About the Government (Talking Heads Cover).

I don’t know how old this kid is, but he’s rocking this song and bringing a little something of his own to the mix too. Nice work and a solid cover!

Siskel and Ebert review MST3K

They don’t seem to get it.

Ben and Laura on Dr. Katz

My mind was blown recently when I discovered that Ben from Dr. Katz was H. Jon Benjamin and Laura was Laura Silverman. They were my two favorites on the show. When is Netflix streaming going to pick these up.

Faves of the Week:

Tron Sweded:

Jumping on the Tron bandwagon. I still get a kick out of the “sweded” format from “Be Kind, Rewind”

Augmented Reality Written Sign Translator

This looks damn handy! I wonder if it mimics handwriting, too.

Animated with Google Docs

Infographics Gone Wild! I do a pie chart every week for one of the publications I design and have them all saved sans information in a big Illustrator Doc.

Video Game with Pee Peripheral

I’ve been talking about this one for years. What better way to spend 30 seconds at the john. You could have all sorts of mini games revolving around force (distance), quantity (balloon burst game), stop start, precision, targets, maybe even an sobriety tester.

Behind the Scenes: Aqua Teen Hunger Force

The ATHF gang recording their lines. My favorites are the Mooninites and the Plutonians.

Paraskiing down a mountain

Superior, Speed Fly from Marshall Miller on Vimeo.

Put this on full screen and sit back. I just kept waiting for one of the parachutes to get caught on a tree or rock and end the trip really quick.
