#musicmonday: 5 seconds of every #1 song

5 seconds of every #1 song from 1993-2011

5 Seconds of Every #1 Billboard Hot 100 Hit From 1993-2011 by AnthonyDC

Ugh. #1 hits are intolerable. It’s like a bad 30-minute flashback that makes me glad i never listened to the radio much. There are a few moments of pleasant nostalgia, but it’s generally stomach churning. I’m listening to it for the first time as i type this and am only at that craptastic song from Titanic. I wonder if it gets any better as the years peel away?

Superbrothers: Swords & Sworcery

Audience Calibration Procedure from Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery on Vimeo.

This looks amazing. I love the 8-bit style but they’re really bringing something new to it too. Look for more around the vernal equinox.

Nostromo – Binary Overdrive

Not sure what this is from, but it’s gorgeous. Not so into the song but the animation is amazing. Thanks Wattana for the tip!

Solowheel

Hey, it’s those little wheelie things from the comic B.C. For the low low price of $1500 you can have this truncated segway that’s far more portable (if maybe a little less comfortable to ride).

Harpo Marx vs. Milton Berle

That Harpo is a talented guy. Note the Kraft Kitchens plug at the very end!

Lance Burton Magic

I’m a sucker for sleight of hand and this routine is amazing.

Music Tuesday: Tegan and Sarah – Walking with a Ghost

Tegan and Sarah – Walking with a Ghost

This is my favorite Tegan and Sarah song. This song is timeless. I am glad that these haircuts have gone out of vogue though.

Lyrics (short but sweet… why would you need more?):
No matter which way you go
No matter which way you stay
You’re out of my mind
Out of my mind
I was walking with a ghost
And I said please, please don’t insist
I was walking with a ghost
And I said please, please don’t insist

Deepest hole in the world?

These kids seem to think so, but i don’t think it will stay so deep if tourists keep coming by to throw rocks in it.

Drunk guy vs ice

Looks like the crazy fuck did this all on his own without anyone else filming. Brrrr!

Civilized cat eating fish

This never gets old. I love this gag. This cat is sooo pimp!

Family Fued: Something that gets passed around:

Raquel Welch: Space-Girl Dance

Goofy, sexy(?) go-go dance from the sixties.

Holland 1945 – Neutral Milk Hotel

Such a raucous, shambly, happily tragic song. It gets me moving and moping at the same time.

Lyrics:
The only girl I’ve ever loved
Was born with roses in her eyes
But then they buried her alive
One evening, 1945
With just her sister at her side
And only weeks before the guns
All came and rained on everyone
Now she’s a little boy in Spain
Playing pianos filled with flames
On empty rings around the sun
All sing to say my dream has come

But now we must pick up every piece
Of the life we used to love
Just to keep ourselves
At least enough to carry on

And now we ride the circus wheel
With your dark brother wrapped in white
Says it was good to be alive
But now he rides a comet’s flame
And won’t be coming back again
The Earth looks better from a star
That’s right above from where you are
He didn’t mean to make you cry
With sparks that ring and bullets fly
On empty rings around your heart
The world just screams and falls apart

But now we must pick up every piece
Of the life we used to love
Just to keep ourselves
At least enough to carry on

And here’s where your mother sleeps
And here is the room where your brothers were born
Indentions in the sheets
Where their bodies once moved but don’t move anymore
And it’s so sad to see the world agree
That they’d rather see their faces fill with flies
All when I’d want to keep white roses in their eyes

Never Tear Us Apart

One of my favorite INXS songs covered by Beck and Annie from St. Vincent

Super Delicious Ingredient Force

Holy crap. For advertainment, this is awesome!

Debtris

A well done info-graphic about the size and scale of our worldwide spending.

Jellyfish – The MTV theme

Heard this the other day and it brought back major flashbacks. I remember watching MTV at the neighbor’s house when i would visit my grandparents LONG before I had cable of my own. They had one of those big click-button boxes for changing the channels. Thanks to Jason for pointing me to the band responsible for this piece of television history.

Ping pong robot

this shit is sweeeeeet.

Polarbears jack up the science equipment

I like that blizzard cam runs away like a little bitch and also the disappointed face on the polar bear when he crushes snowball cam. awwww.

Matt Jaffe – Don’t Worry About the Government (Talking Heads Cover).

I don’t know how old this kid is, but he’s rocking this song and bringing a little something of his own to the mix too. Nice work and a solid cover!

Siskel and Ebert review MST3K

They don’t seem to get it.

Ben and Laura on Dr. Katz

My mind was blown recently when I discovered that Ben from Dr. Katz was H. Jon Benjamin and Laura was Laura Silverman. They were my two favorites on the show. When is Netflix streaming going to pick these up.

If this doesn’t hit you in the gut just a little bit you have a dead dark soul.

Also here’s Floyd singing My Guitar Gently Weeps

And this is another one I remember affecting me when i was a kid.

It’s maybe a little too long to be the next Toy Food, but at least wait until he jumps into the sun.
